Screenwriting 101

Starts February 1st

This course is designed for aspiring writers who are new to screenwriting and want a hands-on, comprehensive introduction to the craft. Across hours of guided instruction, students will explore the essential elements of storytelling for film and television, including character development, plot structure, scene construction, and writing compelling dialogue. Each session combines engaging lectures with practical exercises, allowing participants to immediately apply what they learn and receive feedback from experienced instructors.

Students will start by generating ideas and developing loglines, then move on to outlining scenes and crafting a full story arc. By the final week, each participant will have written a short screenplay or a polished draft of a pilot episode, gaining experience with industry-standard formatting and script presentation. Along the way, students will also learn tips and strategies from professional screenwriters, including how to overcome writer’s block, refine dialogue, and create stories that captivate audiences.

By the end of the course, participants will not only have a completed script but also the skills, confidence, and understanding of screenwriting fundamentals to continue writing independently or take their work to the next level. This course is perfect for beginners of all ages who are eager to tell stories for the screen.

  • Complete beginners with little or no screenwriting experience.

  • Screenwriters wanting feedback on their script.
  • Young writers and teens eager to explore storytelling for film and TV.

  • Adults looking to try screenwriting as a creative hobby or as a first step toward a professional career.

  • Anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of plot, character, dialogue, and screenplay structure in a supportive, hands-on environment.
